So, does anyone want to buy a house?

Jody and I are weird people, but Jody is real pretty, so there’s that. After Hurricane Katrina took away our house that we really didn’t like very much in the first place, God used someone we had never met before to provide us with the house of our dreams. This gracious gentleman set it up with terms that made it possible for us to afford it (which we could never have done otherwise), and we happily settled into this lovely house in a lovely neighborhood in a lovely community.

Just lovely, huh?

For the past several weeks, we’ve been working our little hineys off to get this lovely house close on to perfection – so we can sell it! Of all things! What’s up with that?

When the law school discussion became serious, one of our first problems was thinking about leaving this wonderful house. This was a very real problem. Surprisingly, it didn’t take long for us to get past the concept, realizing that we shouldn’t make “following God” type decisions based on real estate. Abram, formerly of Ur of the Chaldees, kind of blew that option out of the water. Not to mention Jesus, formerly of Heaven.

But this decision becomes much more real tonight when our realtor/friend (not in that order), Barbara, drops by the house to fill out the paperwork to sink a FOR SALE sign in our yard.

I hope it sells tomorrow. Serious. Well, I hope it sells tomorrow, and they at least let us live in it until the school year ends in about six weeks, but we can live creatively this summer for all I care. Bring on the buyers!!!

Hurricane Katrina taught us that possessions are transitory and that life carries right on even when your most valuable financial assets are taken away from you. I’ve got my fingers crossed that it has also helped me learn that it works just as well when you give them up all by yourselves.
