I met the president of Pepperdine’s College Republicans in the waiting room at UrgiCare not long after moving to Malibu. He told me of this big project for 9/11 that had been in the works for months. They planned to adorn Pepperdine’s gorgeous front lawn along the Pacific Coast Highway with thousands of full-sized flags – one for every life lost that fateful September day.
Well, they did it. And I’ve got to hand it to them: it is simply amazing.
We joined many others last night, including whole bunches of photographers, taking in the sight. Dozens of cars pulled off the highway on their way home from work and stood out with their cell phone/cameras, trying to capture the beauty.
It has been seven years now. Hard to believe.
And hard to forget.
