Star-Studded Team

Some of our friends from church send their children to Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village (the town Hillary knows as the place the Jonas Brothers live!). It’s about 15 or 16 miles from here, so we made the drive up last night to watch the Lions take on Venice High in a little high school football action.

Well, there’s nothing “little” about Oaks Christian football action. They are now 5-0 on the season, and when we left just after the halftime homecoming activities last night, they were winning 42-0. They must have been gracious in the second half because the final score was 42-14.

Beyond the victories, what is so interesting about their football team is their star-studded lineup.

Joe Montana was in the stands last night watching his son, Nick, who is the junior starting quarterback on the team. Very cool to see Joe Cool in person.

We saw Trevor Gretzky, son of Wayne Gretzky and quarterback for the JV team walking around at halftime though we didn’t see his famous father.

We also saw Trey Smith, son of Will Smith and wide receiver on the JV team patrolling the sidelines during the varsity game though we didn’t see his famous father either. I read that Will came to a game in a helicopter last year and that on another occasion his friend, Tom Cruise, tagged along. For those of you as old as me, Trey is Will’s son in the song “Just the Two of Us” back when he was just a little kid.

NFL pro bowler Clay Matthews is the defensive coordinator for the team.

I know that Texas high school football is impressive and all, but the environment at Oaks Christian gives it a run for its money. Check out an interesting article about it HERE.
