Looking Forward

So a couple of nights ago at the dinner table Hillary turns the tables and starts giving ME advice. She is well aware how many hours law school requires – and that it isn’t easy psychologically – so she told me how to survive: “Just look forward to the good things. Like, Thursday night I’m going to play tennis with my daughter, and Friday night I get to watch a movie with my wife.”

Jody asked her, “When did you get so smart?”

Anyway, I looked forward to playing tennis with my daughter last night. Pepperdine has two sets of tennis courts, and we chose the main one where the university matches are held. Out of several thousand students and such a breathtaking free facility, only 2 of the 9 courts were being used. The weather was Malibu perfect, and the scenery tremendous. And we had a wonderful evening together before I had to go back to the library.

And I’m looking forward to watching a movie with my wife tonight. The Law Library ended up with a mini-Blockbuster collection of free DVDs, and with Hillary going to Girls Night at her youth minister’s apartment tonight, Jody & I are actually going to get a chance to watch a movie together! I’ve got quite a bit of studying to do today, but I’m looking forward to tonight.

I’m glad my daughter reminded me of the importance of Looking Forward. The next frontier is learning how to continually appreciate the Present.
