First of all, my friend, John Dobbs, is the only one who cares about us and asked how close we are to the fires. 😦 (J/K) I really didn’t know, but it was weird that I smelled smoke just prior to reading his email! Anyway, just afterward, I read an email from Pepperdine’s housing office saying that the smell is coming from the Sylmar fire (which is about 25 miles away as the fire burns). In other words, nothing to worry about – yet, at least. 🙂
Second, we 1Ls are off and running on our big graded LRW assignment. We’re on our own this time around – no help or feedback on this sucker. It has laid claim to my entire Saturday. Yesterday, in an effort to bring a smile to our face and reassure us that we are all capable legal researchers, Professor Farrell shared a short video from the O.J. trial when Judge Ito’s Pepperdine law clerks showed up Marcia Clark. I was telling Jody & Hillary about it last night at supper, and it was fun for Jody and I to reminisce and tell Hillary all about “the O.J. trial.” Kinda weird to realize we’re living in the area now. My friend, Michael Lasley, told me he sees Al Cowlings drinking coffee in Malibu every morning. One of Mikey’s friends caught a ride with him one day and thought, “I’m riding in a car with the driver in the most famous car chase in the history of America!”
Anyway, maybe when I get a break we can do a little O.J. tour and check out some of the locations that are so famous.

We haven’t inquired about your well being and smoke inhalation quotient.
However, in our defense:
A) we have been to Texas for a granddaughter’s wedding (which means I could be a great-grandfather in the not-too-distant future.) Cheeesh!
B) And visited with other family there, and
C) cleaned the family grave plot located in a cemetery where the idea of “perpetual care” is thought to bein God’s hands; and
D) got to (or is it “had to”?) sit between my current wife and my ex-wife in the same church pew when the grandmothers of the bride got usher in back to back!
Anyway – glad you are okay and only getting a whiff of smoke so far.
And, I’m interested in when you will know what your grade was on the 30% of your final!

Sounds like you’ve been having as much “fun” as me. 🙂 Congrats on the baby news, and special congrats on surviving the awkward wedding moment! Wish I could see a video of your face during the wedding! LOL! 🙂
And I’m interested in knowing when I’ll find out about my grade, too, but truth be told, I don’t think it will be anytime soon. My LRW teacher is super-thorough, and not interested in setting any land speed records.
