Well, the movie clip is ten minutes long, but it is one of my all-time favorites. If you get ten minutes…

It’s from Glory, based on the true story of the 54th from Massachusetts, a Union battalion made up of black soldiers that was formed in the Civil War. This clip is from the night before battle – a battle where it was simply known that many of the soldiers would be killed. Here, they have a little impromptu worship/prayer session. It is amazing.

I am part of a cool little men’s group here at law school, and I am supposed to do our group email today. With our first final tomorrow (for most of us), and at the risk of sounding overly dramatic, I thought of this clip (particularly Denzel Washington’s “prayer”).

Sometimes just showing up for something we are afraid of is heroic all by itself.
