Arguing Just For Fun

Posted: March 6, 2009 in Miscellaneous

I have a confession to make: law school doesn’t make me feel all giddy inside.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m doing fine, and I don’t want to leave or anything. In fact, I’m really enjoying the overall experience. No, it’s just that I don’t get all giddy about some of the law school things that other folks around me must really enjoy.

I find the classes interesting, but mostly interesting in the “heh, so that’s how that works” sort of way. I’m looking forward to the day when I get to choose some classes that make me want to get up in the morning, but that’s for semesters yet to come.

Really, I realized that law school and “me” aren’t star-crossed lovers because I had to attend a moot court competition last night. It was interesting, once again in that “heh” sort of way. But moot court is what law students do for fun. It’s like making the football team, or cheerleading. But after watching my first moot court last night, I realized I’d rather make a football team. Or cheerleading.

Anyway, we first-years will get a shot at moot court in a couple of weeks, and I think it will be a neat experience. It will be my first time to stand in front of a panel of judges like a real lawyer and defend my case. What law school run would be complete without that experience?

But I really don’t see myself doing it just for kicks.

But, who knows. I’ve surely been wrong about things like this before.
