Aging Gracefully

Posted: June 9, 2009 in Justice, Laughter

So I’m in Compton at a DPSS office this afternoon, and I’m doing my best to help a young man get his benefits. He is wearing an Arkansas Razorbacks cap backwards, so I instantly like him (turns out he just collects caps and was wearing this one today by chance – thankfully I didn’t start calling the Hogs right there in the waiting room). Anyway, he isn’t easy to follow, and I get a little concerned about his age. He is homeless, and I suspect life is pretty rough on the streets for a young person. My supervising attorney said I should see if he is a former foster care youth because there may be special benefits for him if so.

So I say, “Hate to be pushy, Cory, but how old are you?”

He answers, “37.”

🙂

Too old for former foster youth benefits, but the upside is that he’s now old enough to be President!
