I find the unknown to be the most exciting thing about a new year. Who knows what 2010 will bring? Sure, that’s a little scary. But it’s exciting, too. And I prefer exciting.
If all goes as planned, when 2010 ends I will be facing my final semester of law school. There’s a slight chance that by then we’ll have an idea of where we’ll be living after law school. That could be right here in sunny Malibu. It could be anywhere. This is exciting all by itself.
But what will make up these 365 days in front of me? Who will I get to know? What will I get to do? What thoughts will become a part of the way I see the world, and which song, book, quote, class, movie, speaker, conversation, or event will be the conduit to bring such thoughts to me?
Exciting, I say.
Tomorrow, on the first day of 2010, we are going to the Rose Parade in Pasadena, which isn’t a bad way to start off a year. The grand marshal of the parade this year is Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the American hero of 2009. Who would have thought “Sully” would be a national hero in 2009? Who will be the heroes of 2010? Maybe it will be you. Maybe it will be me.
There is no telling what 2010 will bring. But let’s see.
